Start with the project requirement

List the requirements already specified for each opening, then identify the choices that are still open. Ask your project designer to confirm required safety, thermal, acoustic or appearance criteria. A supplier can review a proposed configuration more clearly when these requirements are written beside the opening ID.

Use one glass schedule across quotations

Undecided itemsRequest a clearly labelled alternative rather than silently changing the base quotation.

A real catalogue example

YSA55A (YJ-P003) and YSA80A (YJ-P004) both list 5mm+12A+5mm clear tempered double glazing in the supplied catalogue. Their frame construction differs: YSA55A is non-thermal-break and YSA80A is thermal-break. The glass description alone does not identify the frame construction or establish a whole-product performance result.

Match glass evidence to the supply proposal

Ask for the safety-glass, insulating-glass or other supplier documentation that corresponds to the proposed glass construction. These records are outside the public window and door preview collection and should be reviewed separately from the complete window or door report.

Request glass supplier documents ↗

Copy this into your RFQ

For openings [IDs], please quote the glass build-up [specified / proposed], required appearance [details] and performance requirements [metric and units]. Identify the applicable glass documents and any separate window or door reports. Show alternatives as separate lines and explain what changes in each alternative.

FAQ

Before we begin.

A few things to know before you start your window and door inquiry.

Can I request glass options before choosing a frame series?

Yes. Send the opening types, sizes and project requirements. Treat the first discussion as a configuration review, and ask for the selected glass and frame combination to be recorded in the final quotation.

Can one glass certificate cover every window in my order?

Ask the supplier to match its stated scope to the glass being supplied. A glass record should not be read as a complete-window or complete-door report.

What if the architect has not specified the glass yet?

Mark the glass specification as undecided, describe the project requirements and request labelled proposals. Avoid treating a proposal as an approved order specification.
